Voyager 2 view of Jupiter's Great Red Spot, recorded on 6 July 1979 from a distance of 2.6 million kilometres. A long, narrow, white cloud is seen along the Great Red Spot's northern boundary; the presence of this cloud prevents small cloud vortices from circling the Spot in the manner seen by the Voyager 1 spacecraft three months earlier. The Great Red Spot is a massive & relatively stable storm system in the Jovian atmosphere; it has been seen from Earth for over 200 years | |
