Martian rock experiments,false-colour Spirit rover image. Abrasion marks (blue) are seen at upper left and upper right, where the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit has used its rock abrasion tool (RAT) to investigate the nature of parts of a Martian rock outcrop named James 'Cool Papa' Bell. These experiments took place on 22 and 25 February 2006,in the Home Plate area of the Gusev Crater's Columbia Hills. The streaks of dust blown from the holes show the prevailing wind direction. The colours of the image were created by combining three camera filters designed to enhance colour differences in the Martian rocks and soils | |
