Martian craters. Mars Express image of craters in the Solis Planum (Solis Plain) region of Mars. The area shown is about 100 kilometres across. A high cliff (lower left) is about 800 metres high and is the remains of an eroded crater. Mars is a cold, desert world. There is very little geological activity at the moment, though past activity is thought to have formed features like the ridges at upper right. Data from the High Resolution Stereo Camera. Mars Express has been orbiting Mars since December 2003 | |
