Lunar eclipse. Moon over an industrial area during a partial lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon enters the cone of shadow cast into space by the Earth. The part of the Moon in shadow does not entirely disappear because light is refracted onto its surface by the Earth's atmosphere. Since red light is scattered less than blue light the Moon has a copper red colour. Photographed in Turku,Finland | |
