Testing a microscope for use on Mars. Researcher using a microscope to examine a rock sample while in the habitation module at FMARS,the Flashline Mars Arctic Research Station. FMARS,located in the Canadian Arctic,is one of several Mars simulation programs run by the international Mars Society. The aim is to test equipment and habitat designs in harsh conditions like those found on Mars, and to observe the effect on human crews. This microscope is a prototype developed at the university of Tucson,Arizona,USA,for a space probe launched in 2003. Work at FMARS is carried out over several months in the Arctic summer. Several missions have been completed since the project began in 2000 | |
