Huygens arrival at Titan. Artwork depicting the Huygens probe as it descends through the atmosphere of Titan, the largest satellite of Saturn. Here, the carbon heatshield has been ejected after the first parachute has been deployed. At this point, the probe should be about 170 kilometres above Titan's surface and would commence atmospheric analysis. Huygens is part of the Cassini spacecraft, due for launch in 1997. Using several fly-bys of Venus,Earth and Jupiter,Cassini will arrive at Saturn in June 2004. After deploying Huygens, the main body of the spacecraft will enter a complex orbit pattern around Saturn | |
