Hubble Space Telescope. Sun reflecting off the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) which is in the Space Shuttle's cargo bay after servicing. The telescope's array of solar panels can be clearly seen at centre left & right. The HST was captured by the Space Shuttle Discovery during the mission STS-103 (19-27 December 1999). Once captured, the HST's computer, gyroscopes and tape recorders were replaced during a series of spacewalks or extravehicular activities (EVAs). The telescope's external insulation was also repaired. This mission was the third to service the HST since its launch in 1990 | |
