Telescope of P.B. Molesworth (1867-1906),British amateur astronomer. This 12.5 inch (32 centimetre),photographically equipped Newtonian reflector from George Calver, was installed in Molesworth's garden in Trincomalee,Sri Lanka,in March 1898. Molesworth was perhaps best known for conducting three series of Venus observations between 1897 and 1898 and this is the telescope he used for the third and final series. He also used it to discover the Great South Tropical Disturbance on Jupiter (a complex dusky region in the planet's South Tropical Zone) on 28th February 1901 | |
