Whole body scan. Coloured magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of a man's body arranged to resemble Leonardo Da Vinci's famous artwork. The body is in coronal (front) section. The brain (upper centre) is green. Lungs are red. Bones appear purple/white,with the vertebrae of the spinal column evident down centre. This whole body image is the product of a number of combined MRI scans. MRI scanning uses radio waves and a powerful magnetic field to produce "slice" images through the body. Da Vinci drew the artwork on which this image is based to show that the movements of the limbs could be described on the perimeters of a circle and a square | |
