Woman and man. Coloured thermogram of a woman (at left) and a man standing in front of white rays of light. Thermography is a technique for visualising skin and body temperatures. The colours represent different temperatures: from black (coolest) to red, yellow and white (warmest). Skin temperature may reflect the volume of blood supply across parts of the body, and can highlight a variety of circulatory dysfunctions. Long-wavelength infrared radiation is emitted by the skin in proportion to the skin temperature. This heat radiation is detected electronically by a thermographic camera, and processed to give a thermogram image | |
