It is not known to have any function in humans. At centre left is the lumen space with a folded mucosal wall (purple). Around this wall is lymphoid tissue (pink and blue) which often forms follicles. This is surrounded by an outer serosa layer (pink). Magnification: x2.5 at 35mm size
