The stomach glands produce hydrochloric acid,mucous,digestive enzymes (pepsin) & hormones,substances derived from the simple columnar cells that comprise the moss-like mucous membrane (mucosa). Gastric glands are formed by simple invagination or tubular ingrowth of this mucosa into the underlying layer.
