Head muscles. Historical artwork of the facial and other muscles of a human head and neck, seen from the side. The complex arrangement of muscles on and around the cheeks, lips and eyes allow the extensive facial expressions that are an important part of non-verbal communication in humans. Other muscles radiate outwards around the ear (the ear and temporal muscles),and the scalp muscles form lines running over the top of the head. At right of the ear, running diagonally from the corner of the eye to the back of the lower jaw,is the large and powerful jaw muscle. The neck muscles, such as the sternomastoid (running diagonally forward from the base of the ear),connect the skull with the bones of the neck and chest | |
