MODEL RELEASED. Man undergoing exercise testing on a treadmill, whilst an electrocardiograph (ECG) records the electrical activity of his heart. Various electrodes taped over his chest & back are connected to the ECG machine at left. This technique is used in the diagnosis of cardiac ischaemia, the restriction in the heart's blood supply which occurs in coronary artery disease,& also for detecting abnormal heart rhythms. Typical patients might be suffering from angina (pain in the chest on exercising) or being assessed in the weeks following a heart attack.
