IVF embryo transfer. Technician aspirates embryos after in vitro fertilisation (IVF) by CISS (Computer Imaging Sperm Selection). She is drawing up the embryos in liquid into a syringe, before they are implanted into a woman's womb. CISS is a method of obtaining fertilised human embryos. In CISS,a computer monitors the movement of donor sperm to determine sperm fertility. Once computer selected, the fertile sperm is placed on the surface of a human egg for fertilisation to take place. The CISS technique improves the rate and safety of in vitro fertilisation; in 1994 the first CISS baby was born. Photographed at NURTURE reproductive unit in Nottingham,UK | |
