Dental X-ray machine and detector. This equipment will be used to take an X-ray of a patient's teeth. The digital X-ray detector (right) is placed inside the patient's mouth. X-rays are then passed from the machine (left) through the patient's teeth to be recorded by the detector. This allows the diagnosis of dental conditions, such as cavities,in a localised area and without the excessive use of X-rays. This digital system, manufactured by Sirona, uses a CCD (charge-coupled device) detector to detect the X-rays,instead of photographic film. This produces a more detailed picture.
