MODEL RELEASED. Computerised dental X-ray. Dental surgeon examines a monitor showing a coloured X- ray image of a patient's teeth produced by computed dental radiography (CDR). CDR is a new (in 1997) X-ray technique that uses little radiation, requires no film and allows an image to be seen almost instantaneously. The patient has a sensor (unseen) in her mouth which is attached to a microprocessor by a thin cable. The radiographer holds the X-ray emitting tube close to the patient's face and an image appears on the monitor. By colouring or adjusting the contrast on the views the dental surgeon can identify problems such as impacted teeth and bone loss | |
