MODEL RELEASED. Wart removal. Surgeon's gloved hands using liquid nitrogen to remove a seborrhoeic wart (or keratosis) from the temple of a 90 year old woman. Liquid nitrogen is at a temperature of 196 degrees Celsius below freezing. The use of extreme cold in surgery is known as cryotherapy. The affected area is sprayed with the nitrogen, which freezes it solid, allowing it to be removed. Seborrhoeic warts are caused by an overproduction of the skin protein keratin. They are harmless, and are usually removed for cosmetic reasons | |
