MODEL RELEASED. Chemotherapy. Injecting a biodegradable implant into the abdomen of a 74-year-old man to treat his prostate cancer. As the implant slowly breaks down it releases the drug Zoladex. Zoladex stops the production of testosterone,an androgen hormone that causes the prostate cancer to grow and spread. Reducing the levels of testosterone is vital if the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. If the cancer has not spread,it can often be treated by surgically removing the prostate or with radiotherapy. Secretions from the prostate, which is situated below the bladder, form part of the seminal fluid | |
