| Brain graft surgery in Parkinson's disease. Neuro- surgeon at a microscope removes mesencephalon brain tissue from 8 week old human foetuses. The tissue from the locus niger of the foetal brain will be directly implanted into the brain of a waiting Parkinson's disease patient. Parkinson's disease is caused by a degeneration of dopamine- secreting nerve cells in the brain. The affected brain region of the patient is located by MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). Dopamine-secreting brain cells from human foetuses are then implanted by microinjection into the patient.
