Hepatitis C "ELISA" test. Technician tests human blood serum for antibodies to hepatitis C virus. This is an ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) test. In test tubes in racks is human blood serum; in the bath,viral antigen is washed onto the wells; a tray of wells (at front) has received serum for testing. In the test,the wells which remain white are negative; those that change colour to yellow/orange are positive and confirm that the patient has antibodies for hepatitis C virus. Hepatitis C is a serious liver infection most commonly contracted after a blood trans- fusion. There is yet no vaccine against the virus
