Hepatitis C "ELISA" test. Tray of wells containing human blood serum is tested for antibodies to the hepatitis C virus. This is known as an ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) test. Wells which remain white are negative; those that change colour to yellow/orange are positive and confirm that the patient has antibodies for hepatitis C virus. The ELISA test involves adding a patient's blood serum to antigens produced by the virus. Antibodies in the blood of an infected patient will then react and an enzyme causes a colour change. Hepatitis C is a serious liver infection. There is yet no vaccine against the virus | |
