MODEL RELEASED. Endoscopy. Surgeon inserting a catheter (blue on monitor) into the ureter of a patient during endoscope surgery to diagnose kidney stones. The ureter is the tube that carries urine from a kidney to the bladder. The monitors show the endoscope view. The catheter will be used to introduce a radio-opaque contrast medium into the kidney. The patient's abdomen will then be X- rayed and the contrast medium will highlight any kidney stones that are present. Kidney stones are formed when mineral salts, most often involving calcium, accumulate in the inner surfaces of the kidney | |
