MODEL RELEASED. Baha hearing system. Man with a bone anchored hearing system (Baha),fitting the sound processor back into place. The Baha system offers a solution to those who cannot benefit from air conduction hearing aids. It works by amplifying sound vibrations (with the sound processor) and transmitting them (via an external abutment) to a small titanium implant. The vibrating implant sets up vibrations within the skull and inner ear that finally stimulate the nerve fibres of the inner ear, allowing hearing. The system allows sound to be conducted through the bone rather than via the middle ear,a process known as direct bone conduction. For a picture of the external abutment see image M362/0099 | |
