MODEL RELEASED. Skin graft. Image 1 of 3. Skin graft (centre right) on a 56-year-old woman's leg,7 days after grafting. Healing is not complete. The donor site (red) from which the graft was taken is also seen. Skin grafts are used when a wound is too large to be stitched or will scar severely if left to heal naturally. This wound was caused by a fall. New skin was placed over the wound and is growing to meet the surrounding tissue, protecting the wound from infection. The colour and texture of grafted skin may not exactly match its surroundings, even when healing is fully completed. For this wound 16 days and 6 weeks post-graft,see images M336/051 and M336/050 respectively | |
