MODEL RELEASED. Hernia scar. Post-operative scar seen on the abdomen of a 47-year-old male two weeks after surgery to repair an inguinal hernia. This is a weakness in the groin wall which allows structures normally contained within the body cavity to protrude. It commonly results in part of the intestine bulging through the inguinal canal, the passage through which the testes descend into the scrotum. Surgical repair pushes the protruding intestine back into place and strengthens the body wall with stitches. In this case a post-operative seroma has occurred, resulting in a collection of fluid beneath the surgical incision. This is easily treated by draining the fluid | |
