MODEL RELEASED. Infected hand wound. Image 2 of 3. This wound on the hand of an 89-year-old woman has got infected,despite being cleaned and dressed by a nurse. The patient has been on long-term steroid use for rheumatic disorder. One of the common side-effects of long-term topical steroid use is the thinning of the skin,increasing the likelihood of tearing (lacerating) it. This infection will need a course of antibiotics to treat it. See M330/1606 for the wound prior to infection and M330/1614 for the wound after treatment
