| Corrected spinal scoliosis. Coloured X-ray showing a steel plate pinned onto the lumbar spine,to correct curvature of the human spine known as scoliosis. Vertebrae of the spine run from top to bottom,with the pelvis seen at lower frame (light yellow). At centre,five steel pins connected by a plate have been screwed into affected vertebrae to immobilize them. Scoliosis is sideways curvature of the spine. It typically begins in childhood,progressing to an S- shaped spine until the age when growth stops. It may also be a congenital abnormality or due to disease.
