Injured finger. Close-up of a 68-year-old man's finger which was crushed and lacerated (cut) when an engine was dropped on it. The laceration has caused a large triangular-shaped piece of skin to come away from the surface. This has caused bleeding and resulted in an area of the living underlying layers to be exposed to infection. Blood has started to dry (clot) over this area to seal the wound. Dead infection-fighting white blood cells are accumulating at the top of the wound as pus (yellow). The area of whiteness around the wound reveals where the injury was first covered with a plaster | |
