Urticaria - skin rash on arm. View of inflammation and raised wheals on an arm. This is caused by an allergic reaction (in this case the allergen is unknown) and is called urticaria. Urticaria is a transient condition characterised by itchy swellings and flushing of the skin. The rash is most commonly found on the limbs and trunk, but may appear anywhere on the body. Urticaria often results from an allergic reaction to food, for example strawberries, shellfish, milk or eggs; or to a drug such as penicillin or aspirin. Urticaria is treated by applying a soothing lotion to the skin, and by using anti-histamines or corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory) drugs | |
