Molluscum contagiosum. Pus-filled lesion seen on the skin of an 8 year old girl. The lesion is caused by a Molluscum contagiosum virus infection, with pus resulting from a secondary bacterial infection. Molluscum contagiosum is usually harmless, and most commonly occurs in children. The shiny papules produce a cheesy fluid and a crust forms before healing occurs. The papules can appear in groups on the genitals, thighs, face or elsewhere. It usually clears up in a few months but may require medical treatment in extreme cases. The disease is highly contagious through skin contact with the affected area | |
