Brain tumour. Coloured computed tomography (CT) 3- D scan showing a large meningioma (yellow ) in a coronal section of the brain. Meningiomas are benign brain tumours which develop from the meninges, the protective covering membranes of the brain. They are rare and may occur at any age; the tumour expands slowly, sometimes becoming large before causing any symptoms. The typical symptoms are headache, vomiting and impaired mental function caused by raised pressure from the meningioma on underlying brain tissue. The tumour may invade the overlying bone causing thicknening and bulging of a region of the skull. They are often completely removed by surgery | |
