The blood vessel running top to bottom on the right is the aorta,the main artery of the body,which starts at the heart. It branches into the two renal arteries that serve the kidneys. The right kidney is also seen (purple). The stent,a wire mesh tube,is used to treat stenosis (narrowing) of the arteries. It holds the artery open,restoring normal blood flow. The most common cause of stenosis is atheroma,fatty deposits that thicken the inner coat of the arteries
