It is usually caused by the spread of an infection of the upper respiratory tract through the eustachian tube,the canal linking the middle ear to the pharynx. If the eustachian tube becomes blocked,pus and fluid can fill the cavity in the middle ear and burst through the eardrum. Otitis media usually responds well to treatment with antibiotic drugs and analgesic drugs (painkillers)
