MODEL RELEASED. Holmes-Adie's syndrome affecting the eye of a female patient. The condition causes abnormal dilation of the affected pupil (at left),which can cause blurred vision and aversion to bright light. The pupil reacts only slowly to raised light levels. The condition is thought to be due to damage to the nerves in the part of the brain controlling eye movement,caused by a bacterial or viral infection. The reflexes of deep tendons in the body may also be affected. In the early stages the condition only affects one side of the body (as here),but it can progress to include both sides. It is permanent but not disabling or life-threatening,and eye drops to constrict the pupil usually improve vision
