Cracked retina. Ophthalmoscope view of the eye of a patient with a cracked retina. The optic disc (yellow,at right) is where the optic nerves and blood vessels enter the eye. In this view the disc is enlarged and the red blood vessels are haemorrhaging throughout the retina. Normally, the retina is orange with discrete branched red blood vessels. Cracked retina is associated with patient's who suffer from a type of myopia. This is where the eye is too long from front to back. As well as causing shortsightedness, myopia can cause a thinning of the retina, which may become prone to cracking,as seen in this case | |
