Buphthalmos retrolental fibroplasia. Close-up of the face of a child with Buphthalmos retrolental fibroplasia,a cause of blindness in premature infants. The affected eye (at right) is noticeably enlarged,cloudy and lacking a distinct pupil. Buphthalmos is a type of congenital glaucoma,where fluid build up within the eye damages internal structures. Here,it has caused retrolental fibroplasia: damaging blood vessels in the developing retina leading to abnormal growth of fibrous scar tissue inside the eye. This condition can lead to detached retina as well as damaged vision,and can be treated with lasers
