MODEL RELEASED. Glaucoma: clouding of the iris in a teenage girl suffering from congenital glaucoma. Glaucoma is a condition in which loss of vision occurs due to abnormally high pressure within the eye. The condition is rarely congenital & is most usually acquired through a defect in the drainage of aqueous humour. In primary glaucoma there is no other eye disease present; this type occurs with increasing age & is an important cause of blindness in the elderly. Secondary glaucoma occurs when another condition impairs the flow of aqueous humour & causes the intraocular pressure to rise. Treatment is through drugs to control intraocular pressure or drainage surgery
