Corneal abrasion stained with fluorescein dye. The cornea is that transparent circular part of the front of the eyeball. It contains no blood vessels & is extremely sensitive to pain. Minor scratches to the cornea provoke no loss of blood yet may be very painful. Fluorescein sodium is a water- soluble dye that glows with a brilliant green colour when light shines upon it. It is used to investigate the patency of the cornea since it stains areas where the corneal epithelium is not intact | |
