| Diabetic retinopathy after laser treatment. Ophthalmoscope view of the retina of the eye in a diabetic patient,after treatment by laser. The retina of this eye suffered severe retinopathy,with the development of a large number of blood vessels. Blood haemorrhages (at lower left) and tiny aneurysms (balloon-like swellings of blood vessels) caused a reduction in bloodflow. However,as seen here,a successful laser treatment has sealed blood vessels and has caused them to regress. Diabetic retinopathy describes the damage to the blood supply of the retina that occurs as a complication of diabetes. (see photo: M140/176 showing this retina before laser treatment) | |
