Adenocarcinomas are cancers that are derived from the surface glandular epithelia that line an organ or cavity. This is an invasive tumour,that is,it is growing into and destroying surrounding tissues. It is fairly well differentiated,exhibiting a well-formed glandular pattern (pink areas). The cause of colonic cancer is not clear but dietary and genetic factors are implicated. Treatment often involves surgery provided that the cancer is not too extensive.
