Cancer cells in ascitic fluid. Light micrograph of cancerous (malignant) glandular cells in human ascitic fluid. Malignant cells are large with a blue cytoplasm and dark nucleus (hyperchromatic,at lower right). These cancer cells can divide and grow rapidly. Found in ascitic fluid (body cavity fluid),these cells may have originated from a diseased organ such as the liver or an ovary. In the background are histiocytes and non-malignant polymorphic cells. Other diagnostic procedures would locate the precise site of the cancer. Stained with MGG. Magnification: x40 at 35mm size | |
