MODEL RELEASED. Skin cancer after treatment. Nose of an 80-year-old man,a week after radiotherapy. The treatment was for a basal cell carcinoma (BCC) that is also known as a rodent ulcer. This is the most common form of skin cancer among fair-skinned people, mostly affecting the elderly. It usually appears on the face and is thought to be caused by the ultraviolet radiation in sunlight. It slowly destroys surrounding tissues, but seldom spreads to other parts of the body. Its treatments include surgery, cryosurgery and radiotherapy. The patient had previously undergone radiotherapy for a carcinoma inside the nose. See M131/475 for an image of the man's nose before surgery | |
