They cause the adrenal gland to over-produce cortisteroid hormones (micro-polyadenomatosis). The adenomas,upper centre and centre right,show multiple irregular-shaped cells,with large nuclei (pink). Symptoms of Cushing's syndrome include a moon- faced appearance,excess body and facial hair (especially in women),raised blood pressure and mental disturbances. Treatment requires the removal of the adrenal gland,followed by hormone replacement drugs. Magnification unknown
