MODEL RELEASED. Cyanosis (blueness) on the feet of an 86 year old woman caused by peripheral vascular disease. The purple/blue colouration is due to the accumulation of deoxygenated blood,which has a purple colour. Peripheral vascular disease,narrowing of the small blood vessels in the legs,restricts blood flow to such an extent that the oxygen in the blood is used up before the blood can be returned to the lungs. Treatment is with regular exercise. Most sufferers are tobacco smokers,and giving up tobacco smoking is a major part of the treatment
