Breast cancer. Coloured magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan of the breasts of a 32 year old woman with breast cancer. There are several malignant (cancerous) tumours (bright orange) in the left breast (at right). This is a centrally necrotizing carcinoma,a particularly aggressive form of cancer. The tumours consist of a central core of dead cells surrounded by an outer layer of malignant cells. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. The cancer can invade surrounding tissue and spread to other parts of the body (metastasis). Treatment is with the removal of the tumours only, where possible,or complete removal of the breast. Surgery is often combined with radiation therapy and chemotherapy | |
