MODEL RELEASED. Recurrence of breast cancer. 80-year-old woman who has had her left breast removed (mastectomy) as a treatment for breast cancer. The remaining skin is inflamed due to radiotherapy treatment, and a new tumour (small lump) is seen in that area. People who have been diagnosed with breast cancer require follow-up care for life to detect new tumours such as this one. Recurrence rates depend upon several factors, including how successful the surgery was at removing the primary tumour, and whether or not it has spread (metastasized). Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Regular self- examination and diagnostic scans can lead to early diagnosis and treatment by surgical removal | |
