Breast cancer. Immunofluorescent light micrograph of human breast cancer cells, growing in culture. Nuclei are stained blue and in several cells are very large indicating rapid division. Tubulin,a structural protein,is green & cytoplasm orange. Cancer occurs through the transformation of normal cells into ones that escape the usual moderating controls of growth and differentiation. Cells become large, display nuclear and chromosomal abnormalities, divide rapidly and may invade other tissues. Immunofluorescence is a staining technique which uses antibodies to attach fluorescent dyes to specific tissues and molecules within cells. Magnification: x125 at 35mm size | |
