MODEL RELEASED. Transmission electron microscope. Researcher uses a transmission electron microscope (TEM). A beam of electrons is propelled down through a column (at upper centre) into a vacuum chamber containing a thin sample. After passing through the sample, the electrons hit a screen which fluoresces to give an image. The screen is viewed through a magnifying lens (green,at lower centre). TEM images have a much higher resolution than conventional optical microscopes | |
