Crystal Palace. Lithograph of the Crystal Palace constructed for the Great Exhibition of 1851 held in London,Britain. The building was designed by Joseph Paxton (1801-65) and was constructed in Hyde Park. It was a revolutionary design,and was constructed of prefabricated iron and glass sections. The Crystal Palace was dismantled after the Exhibition and reconstructed at Sydenham,London,where it was destroyed by fire in 1936. The Great Exhibition contained 100,000 exhibits from around the World,half of them from Britain and the British Empire.
